TEF Canada: format and NCLC equivalency

The TEF Canada is the Paris Île-de-France Chamber of Commerce's French test, recognised by IRCC since 2002. All four sections must be taken on the same day.

The four sections

Section Format Time
Reading 40 multiple-choice questions 60 min
Listening 40 multiple-choice questions 40 min
Writing Section A: continue a news article (80+ words, 25 min). Section B: argue your point of view (200+ words, 35 min) 60 min
Speaking Section A: obtain information (5 min). Section B: present a document and convince (10 min) 15 min

Correct answer = 1 point; wrong or blank = 0, so never leave a question blank.

NCLC equivalency

IRCC uses the “Équivalence ancien score” column of your TEF results, not the score out of 699:

TEF Canada : utiliser la colonne « Équivalence ancien score » de l'attestation, pas le score sur 699 (consigne IRCC).

NCLC 7 requires 249 in listening, 207 in reading and 310 in speaking and writing.
